Marie Léonie Levallois, the wife of Stanislas Meunier – after whom the Paris street is named – published numerous novels and several books of popular science. At the turn of the century, with the expansion of tourism, she accompanied her husband to a conference in Armenia, a journey which inspired this travelogue. Meunier was a professor at the Museum of Natural History, a renowned geologist and mineralogist.
