Larribe, who was freed in February 2011, had been captured five months earlier, on the 16 September 2010, in Niger, along with her husband, an employee of the French power company Areva. Al-Quaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the group responsible for the kidnapping, kept her in the Sahel. She lived the harsh life of the desert but, at least, was not separated from her husband. He and his fellow captives were only freed in 2013.
