A colonist who settled on Native American territory. Pushed to the limit, the Santee Sioux began attacking the colonists' villages during the so-called Sioux Uprising of 1862. More than a hundred women and children were captured and held to ransom. While Lavina Eastlick avoided death and escaped captivity, her husband and three of her children were killed in the attack.
