In 1880, Madame Isabelle Dor attended a scientific congress in North Africa with her husband, Henri Dor. The latter, a Swiss ophthalmologist who ran a renowned clinical practice in Lyon, was a polyglot who greatly contributed to the development of Esperanto. Isabelle, née Hutchinson, of Scottish extraction, shared her husband's interests and was a member of the Lyon Anthopological Society. She died at fourty-eight, in Calluire.
