Evelyn Lady Cobbold
(COLONIAL FEMALE HUNTER)
BIRTH
1867
DEATH
1963

A member of Scottish high nobility who converted to Islam after a pilgrimage to Mecca, Lady Cobbold crossed Kenya in 1934. Though the country was crippled by drought at the time, the narrative of her travels dwells on her impressions of the superb landscape and the pleasures of staying at the well-appointed residences of her compatriots. A keen hunter in her native land, she left the wild animals undisturbed, and celebrated them in her writing.
