Roby undertook a voyage in the Belgian Congo in 1910, accompanied by 200 porters. In perpetual conflict with this contingent, she mistreated them and threatened them with her rifle. She returned to the United Kingdom with a few bits of ivory in her luggage. There she composed My Adventures in the Congo. Badly written, the book is hardly objective concerning the treatment of Africans by the Belgian settlers.
