Ayme Lavender Dower
(COLONIAL FEMALE HUNTER)
BIRTH
1907
DEATH
2003

The scion of an English family of conservative politicians, Ayme Lavender Dower was an ambivalent huntress. After her first safari, as she explains in her account published in 1937, she favoured the camera over the rifle – without much success, as all the film she shot proved to be impossible to develop.

Epic Failure, Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1939.
